Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die, Oh brave Sir Robin.
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin

"I’m 87 years old…I only eat so I can smoke and stay alive.. The only fear I have is how long consciousness is gonna hang on after my body goes. I just hope there’s nothing. Like there was before I was born. I’m not really into religion, they’re all macrocosms of the ego. When man began to think he was a separate person with a separate soul, it created a violent situation.
The void, the concept of nothingness, is terrifying to most people on the planet. And I get anxiety attacks myself. I know the fear of that void. You have to learn to die before you die. You give up, surrender to the void, to nothingness.
Anybody else you’ve interviewed bring these things up? Hang on, I gotta take this call….. Hey, brother. That’s great, man. Yeah, I’m being interviewed… We’re talking about nothing. I’ve got him well-steeped in nothing right now. He’s stopped asking questions.”

Peter Sellers on the set of Doctor Stangelove.
This is strange because he didn’t play the pilot. That went to Slim Pickins.

I'm kind of non-knowledgeable, why do you dislike Mickey Rooney so much? I trust your judgement, I just can't find any info on him other than 'racist caricature in Breakfast at Tiffany's'

Anonymous

haroldlloyds:

There are a lot of reasons why I don’t like him.

He was outspokenly racist, classist, sexist and homophobic

On people in poverty: "the only reason you’re not going to make it is because you’re sitting around on your fannies."

On LGBTIQ people: "If it’s immorally wrong, it’s not normal. Jesus Christ said the effeminate are an abomination to me." (x) (That whole interview is pretty fucking horrible)

He would not admit that his use of yellowface in Breakfast at Tiffany’s was incredibly racist. (He says that he just did what Blake Edwards’ wanted…like he couldn’t’ve spoken up about that…?)

He was notorious for making up lies about other stars (usually long dead ones who couldn’t defend themselves) and a prime example of this is his memoir Life’s Too Short wherein he makes claims about the sexual proclivities of his ex-wives that are highly questionable, and makes up blatant lies about people that even he himself contradicted.

Here’s an article about It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World with an embedded interview with Mickey telling lies and seeking attention (x)

Jackie Cooper said of him: "He says whatever he thinks people want to hear at that time and once it’s out of his mouth, he believes it."

He also claimed that he discovered Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra which is a complete lie. He also made up a lot of lies about Marilyn and that he was the one that gave her her famous name which is also false.
(x) (This whole fuckin sizzle reel pretty much sums up what kind of person he was)

He also claimed that Mickey Mouse was named after him even though Mickey Mouse was officially created in 1928 and Mickey Rooney didn’t change his name to Mickey until 1932. (x)

He was universally disliked within Hollywood and had a reputation of being difficult and incredibly ego-centric, even in the later stages of his career.
Dana Carvey tells of his experience with Mickey here (x) but more stars have mentioned his difficult nature.

Also according to Jackie Cooper "his (Cooper’s) mother resolutely refused to allow him to socialize with Rooney offscreen because he was such a "bad influence.””

And as for his ‘legendary’ status, I’m really not sure he really left an indelible mark on film and the old hollywood era. In my estimation he wasn’t particularly talented, and certainly wasn’t up there with the greats as he so often claimed. He was just a very aggressive and conniving person, possibly shaped by his childhood in show business, but who cannot be excused for his behaviour.

Now, can I please have no more questions about Mickey Rooney.
